When we got pregnant Sean and I began talking about whether or not we were going to need to get a new car. Currently I am driving a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 which although I have been very happy with it only has 2 doors so it would make getting a car seat in and out of the backseat a bit of a challenge.
Eventhough it would be a bit of a challenge to have a baby with a 2 door we initially went with the idea that we would stick with the focus for now and decide as time got closer. Over the summer we began to talk more serious about a new car but no real decisions had been made.
That was until the border guards made the final decision for us…
Because the car I am driving is owned and licensed by my mom we never imported it to Canada and it was never an issue at the border, that was until a couple months ago. The border guard informed us that we had two options we could either import the car to Canada or leave it in the US and get a new car in Canada.
The border guards were all very nice and gave us 3 months to figure everything out before the car had to be removed from Canada permanently. Our new deadline was October 31, 2010 but since the baby was due two weeks before that it seemed easier if we could figure something out before the baby got here.
As I have mentioned before I can get a bit obsessive about things, so to be expected I began scouring car websites and craigslist to see what was out there. Sean had the brilliant idea to go for a car that was a couple years older so that we could get a higher model for what we wanted to spend.
The searching began and continued over the next month or so. Sean and I looked at some cars both new and used still couldn’t decide what we wanted. We were able to rule some things out but still unsure of whether we wanted to take the plunge and go for the new car that Sean was lusting over :)
He might try and say that he wasn’t lusting after this car but I tell you each time we went and looked at it he just got so excited. He even managed to convince me that it would be a great car despite my initial thoughts on the brand, I mean who really drives Hyundai’s.
At this point I think the decision was made and we were ready to make an offer, unfortunately the dealership wasn’t going to go with what we were willing to pay so we walked away. Sean figured he could speak with the other dealerships in the area and try and get our deal with them.
You can imagine my surprise and excitement when he messages me on gmail to tell me he bought a new car. I thought he was kidding so I typed a series of haha’s back to him. But he wasn’t kidding, he had bought us a brand new car. I was so excited, we were the proud new owners of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata!!
Look at how beautiful she is
There are so many features to this car that I feel like I am learning something new every day. I love that it is bluetooth enable so I can call Sean just by pressing a button on the steering wheel and telling the car to call him.
It has pretty leather seats which will be great for cleaning up messes with kids.
I just get excited every time I see it.

How exciting, Kim! Too bad the border guards made the decision for you, but what a great new car! :)
I didn’t realize he bought the car without you. Funny.
