When driving and slowing down suddenly my mom throws her arm out to protect the passenger in the front seat.  My mom has always done this, it doesn’t matter who is in the passenger seat whether it is friends, boyfriends or our husbands she will do it.

Over the last few weeks I have started to do this, and not just occasionally I am talking multiple times a week.  But the funny part is that I am doing when there is no one in the car with me.  I guess it is just a reaction I have known for years.

It is funny to see the ways that you start to become your parents as you get older.  I imagine there are many more things that my mom does that I will begin to do over the years.  I can only be so lucky to become someone like my mom, she is truly amazing.

When Finley Cole arrived 3 years ago I was reminded that there was nothing better in the world than being an aunt.  It has been so amazing over the years to watch him become the active little boy he is today.  Although I only get to see him once a month I thankfully keep up with his crazy antics through my sister and look forward to a day that I might live closer to see him on a more regular basis.

So today is for you Finley Cole, for making my life always entertaining and for making an insecure auntie feel better with a smile when she was convinced you wouldn’t remember who she was between visits.

Happy Birthday Finley Cole!

After waiting impatiently for 9 months we were happy to welcome our new nephew to the world on Saturday morning at 9:26am.

Since my family is in the Seattle area we were unsure if we were even going to be able to make it to the hospital for the big event.  Thankfully Declan decided to wait until Saturday morning to make his big arrival.

We recieved the call from Megan, my younger sister, at 3:00am that Jennifer was in labor and already settling into the hospital.  After taking showers and packing some clothes we hit the road.  Thanks to the early hour, there was no one on the road or at the border and we made record time getting there, 2 1/2 hours.  Which only involved a little bit of speeding.

Sean and I are just so lucky to be an aunt and uncle to such wonderful kids.  Samantha is growing up before our eyes it just doesn’t seem like she is old enough to be in middle school next year.  Finley is such an active 2 year old exploring the world and getting so big between each of our visits to Seattle.  We are so excited about the addition of Declan and look forward to our visit again this weekend to have more time with him.
