Saturday morning we headed up north to spend the weekend at their family cabin, how nice is it to have friends with a cabin.  By early afternoon we were relaxing on the deck overlooking the water with a cold drink in our hands.  Sophie was getting some much needed dog time in, she really loves Millie.

At some point in the afternoon we started talking about tsunami’s, I have no idea why.  But Erik and I started discussing the fastest way to escape a tsunami from the cabin.  I was convinced that if I grabbed Sophie and started running I would be much faster than if he tried to get in the car and make it to higher ground.  Since there wasn’t going to be a tsunami any time soon we decided the best way to determine which is faster is to race.

I wasn’t really going to run up the hill and through the bushes with Sophie so we decided that a candle holder on the deck would work as a good substitute.  Sean got out the camera and took a video of Erik and I racing.  It is pretty funny.

Although Erik did beat me we both would have made it to safety.  And he did not smoke me as he states in the video :)

The rest of the weekend was spent hanging out, eating way too much food, enjoying smores and time around the fire and overall just great quality time with friends.

Sophie and I were in Seattle for Father’s Day so we weren’t able to celebrate with Sean.  We did leave him a very cute card for him to find when he got home from work on that Friday.

Since my family loves any excuse for getting together and eating insane amounts of food and dessert we gathered at my mom and dad’s house to celebrate father’s day.  Since it was my dad’s day he got to pick what we ate and we ended up with quite the spread of finger foods.  I was sitting at the table feeding Sophie all within reach of the food.  I finally had to step away because I think I might have eaten most of the food.

A celebration is not complete without a little croquet tournament in the back yard.

Sophie and I didn’t play with everyone else, instead Sophie had some time on the swing and sitting with Nama.

We had a great time celebrating our dad with lots of food and laughter.

Since Jen and Tyler didn’t come over for father’s day Sophie and I stopped by their house on our way out of town for a quick visit.  Declan showed Sophie how awesome duplo blocks are while Jen and I had some super yummy iced coffee.

Sophie loves playing with her uncle because he does fun things like give a fork and knife to play with.

Although our visits with him are usually short since he has lots of people to see in a short amount of time, I know that Sophie loves having time with her uncle.

This was both mine and Sophie’s first 5K and we had a great time.  Sure I did all the work while she napped in the stroller but she did enjoy the donut at the end.

My nephew Finley who is 4 walked/ran the entire 5K, it was amazing.  He had a great time racing Sophie and I down the street, beating us every time.

It was a fun event with the money raised going to a local pool.

Being a stay at home parent is absolutely amazing and something I am so lucky to be able to do.  With that at times it has it’s own set of challenges.  Yes most of the time my ‘challenges’ are trivial such as whether we meet our friends for lunch at the mall or somewhere else.  But there are times when your day is filled with a tired or cranky baby who doesn’t want to nap.  The fact that you spend most of your time with only your baby can make you go stir crazy for some adult interaction.

I have focused very hard for the last 6 months to get out of the house and find activities for Sophie and I to do that include other babies and moms.  We are fortunate to have a core group of friends and babies that we meet up with multiple times a week.  We all enjoy spending time together with our babies but we all agreed it would be a lot of fun to have a mommies night out.

We got dressed up, not too fancy, and headed for dinner out.  As you would imagine we spent most of the time talking about our babies but it was still great to have time to visit over a glass of wine and not worry about our babies.  It was fabulous.

We will definitely be heading out for another dinner very soon.

Since we have no place in our apartment for a rocking horse they have been storing it.  Every time we go over there we pull it out and give it a try to see if Sophie likes it.

The last few times she has sat on it but it wasn’t until last night that she realized what the handles were for and sat on it all by herself.

Sean did have to hold onto her when it was rocking but I don’t think it will be long before she can rock on it all by herself.  You can tell she is quite proud of herself.

Not only was Sophie showing off her rocking skills she was also showing Grandpa she can walk if someone holds her hands.

After a delicious dinner Nana got out a special treat for dessert, ice cream sandwiches.  Sophie loves ice cream so I knew I would be sharing some of mine with her, I didn’t realize she would take over and try and eat the whole thing herself.  It was very cute how much she was enjoying her ice cream.

After she had eaten half of the ice cream sandwich we decided that was probably enough for her so I took it from her.  You can tell in the picture that she is trying to figure out what happened to her ice cream.

We all couldn’t stop laughing at how cute she was being about her ice cream.  She definitely has a sweet tooth like her mom.

Her uncle Tyler made her cry a few times because he was in her face like her cousins (I wonder where they got it from), and uncle Josh makes her cry when he gets in the backseat with her (but who can blame her he is in her personal space).

Her uncle Travis is the funniest of them all because usually at the sight of him she is instantly unsure.  If he gets close at all it usually resulted in crying .  He can appease her with a toy or letting her pull on his hair but inevitably the crying starts shortly after.

So when we go over to Sean’s dad and his wife Laura’s house for dinners on the occasional Sunday night I always wonder how Sophie is going to react to her uncle Travis.  Don’t let this picture fool you there was crying earlier in the evening.

We discovered that if Travis talked in a very high voice she didn’t cry as much, but for some reason Travis didn’t want to always talk in a high voice.  So thanks to the monkey toy and the cat Sophie was warming up to her uncle Travis.

It ended up being much easier than I had expected because she loved it.  I got her some california rolls and some avocado rolls.  She ate the crab and avocado very quickly and then started in on the rice covered seaweed.  Her favourite part was the chopsticks.

We have had sushi since then and she loved it just as much the second time as she did the first.  She now has a pair of chopsticks in her toy basket because free chopsticks are much more fun than colourful toys.

Our tour of the island started with a stop at Victoria’s store in Nanaimo where Sophie had a great time playing with all of her stamping stuff.  While Sophie was busy with Vic I sat around playing with all of her cool machines.  I probably could have sat there all day just making different things out of the scraps.

We then headed up to Qualicum Beach to visit with Erik and Danielle where we had a great time as usual.  The weather ended up being much colder than I had thought it was going to be but we still tried to get out and enjoy it.  Danielle and me and the girls headed to the beach on Saturday while the boys went shopping to take the dog to run and play.

It was fun just walking in the sand and catching up.  We had our lunch of triscuits and cheese and then topped it off with some ice cream.  It looked like the rain was moving in but thankfully it was only sprinkling on our walk back to the car.

The rest of the weekend was spent eating lots of food and playing some games.  As usual it was a fantastic weekend with the Weisner’s.

We finished out our long weekend with a trip down to Victoria to visit Linda and Pedro.  It was a quick trip but always great to share a meal with them and give them some quality Sophie time.
